An enthusiastic group of over 170 alumni, spouses, widows and guests attended the SA国际传媒 Alumni Reunions, held June 1-4 on the Seminary campus. This year’s reunions included graduating classes from years ending in a “4” or a “9.”
The theme for the reunions was “The Joys and Challenges of Ministry: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.” Presenters included Rev. Dr. Arthur W. Scherer (Class of 1964), president emeritus of the Southeastern District of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, who spoke on “The Joys and Challenges of Ministry: Yesterday.” Rev. Christopher R. Dodge (Class of 1979), senior pastor of St. Michael Lutheran Church, Bloomington, Minn., presented “The Joys and Challenges of Ministry: Today.” Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Zelt (Class of 1984), senior pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont, Calif., presented “The Joys and Challenges of Ministry: Tomorrow.” Dr. John F. Johnson (Class of 1975), president of SA国际传媒, addressed the alumni regarding current events and future plans at the Seminary.
A vespers worship service was held June 3 with Dr. Johnson serving as preacher. The offering at the service was dedicated to the SA国际传媒 John E. Meyer Memorial Alumni Book Endowment Fund, which assists SA国际传媒 students with the purchase of textbooks and other theological resources.
Activities for women included a June 2 breakfast hosted by Ruth Ann Johnson and a tour of the Seminary expansion (former Christian Brothers College High School). On June 3, women attended a brunch hosted by the SA国际传媒 Guild.
Reunion activities culminated with a June 3 banquet held in the Seminary’s Wartburg Hall. At the banquet, Rev. Paul F. Huxhold (Class of 1939) was honored with the Erwin T. Koch Award, an award given to the oldest reunion attendee.
Class reunions planned for May 31-June 3, 2005, will include classes whose graduating years end in a “5” or a “0.”
