Pre-Lenten Workshop for pastors set for Jan. 15

Everyone suffers 鈥 personally and privately. Some people also suffer in more public ways. A husband loses a job. A child gets divorced. A parent dies. And now, owing to today鈥檚 super connected society, people are able to see and experience more and more of the world鈥檚 catastrophes and suffering.

The book of Job and its seminal teaching on suffering is the subject of SA国际传媒, St. Louis [1]鈥 annual one-day pre-Lenten workshop for pastors Friday, Jan. 15, 2016.

Dr. Reed Lessing, senior pastor of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Ind., and a former professor of exegetical theology at SA国际传媒, will lead the workshop, titled 鈥淭he Book of Job: Blessed be the Name of the Lord!鈥

鈥淭he book of Job is one of the most magnificent compositions in the Bible,鈥 Lessing said, 鈥渁nd is numbered among some of the greatest literature of all time. People need the book of Job, now, more than ever.鈥

Pastors will explore nine sermons that dig deeply into Job鈥檚 central message and supporting truths, plus six adult Bible class lessons that further address the book鈥檚 major topics and themes. They will come away with sermon manuscripts, textual notes, orders of service for midweek services and also suggestions for the Sundays of Lent to help them in developing their own worship resources.

Lessing is an active writer and speaker who has delivered presentations throughout [2] in district, congregational, Lutheran Women鈥檚 Missionary League, Lutheran Laymen鈥檚 League and youth settings. He also has written for [3].

The workshop meets from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Koburg Hall on the Seminary campus. Registration is $50 and includes materials and lunch. The registration deadline is Jan. 4.
