The authority of Scripture will be the focus of SA国际传媒鈥 [1]s Fall Lay Bible Institute for laity, theology students, pastors and others interested in the proclamation of the Gospel. The lectures will be held four Wednesday evenings this October and November.
The deadline for registration is Sept. 30. The cost of registration is $30.
鈥淔rom Jesus to the Bible (and Back): Meeting the Crisis of Scripture as People of the Word鈥 will be hosted by Dr. Peter Nafzger [2], assistant professor of practical theology (homiletics), Oct. 5, 12 and 26 and Nov. 2聽 in Sieck Hall 202 on the Seminary鈥檚 campus, 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis.
The institute will examine why we believe the Scriptures are the written Word of God, how they are related to the incarnate and spoken forms of the Word, and what role they play in our faith and life together.
鈥淭here is little dispute that the Bible is the most influential book in history. It鈥檚 also been the most challenged,鈥 Nafzger said. 鈥淓ver since the Enlightenment, the Bible has been under intense and sustained attack. Voices inside and outside the church have called into question its contents, authority and interpretation. These challenges have only increased in recent decades.
鈥淩ather than viewing the present situation as cause for despair, we meet it confidently as 鈥榩eople of the Word.鈥 As such, we approach the Scriptures with faith in Jesus, the crucified and risen Word made flesh; with vigor to proclaim God鈥檚 living and active Word to all; and with humble gratitude for the written Word of the prophets and apostles.鈥
