Fall Lay Bible Institute begins Sept. 28

NOTE: Our apologies but this event has been canceled. We hope to offer this topic at our annual summer workshops or via an online offering. Our next Lay Bible Institute is set for Feb. 10, 2018. Check back later for more details.

鈥淭he Arts in Worship: Past, Present and Future鈥 [1] is the focus of SA国际传媒鈥檚 Fall Lay Bible Institute lecture series beginning Sept. 28 and continuing for three Thursday evenings in October.

Dr. James Marriott, the Seminary鈥檚 Kreft Chair for Music Arts, and Sarah Bernhardt, a University of Missouri鈥擲t. Louis art professor and director of the Intersect Arts program at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in St. Louis, will co-lead the four-part series. The lectures are scheduled for Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, 19 and 26. Each lecture runs from 7-9 p.m. in Sieck Hall 202.

Marriott and Bernhardt will explore how the arts have been a significant bridge between Gospel and culture throughout centuries of Christian worship and discipleship. They will focus on matters of theology, culture, inculturation, tradition and worship practice through the lens of three specific artistic forms: visual art, architecture and music.

The registration deadline is Sept. 22.聽 Cost is $30 per person.
