The 2021 event includes 13 feature length films, four short films and six documentaries. Participants will view all films on their own before the festival except for those scheduled for the short film sessions. During these sessions, several short films will be viewed together online. The festival will feature enriching discussions with theologians, pastors, filmmakers and critics.
鈥淲e are excited to bring back the Faith and Film Festival for its second year. While moving the festival online was necessary due to the pandemic, it also presented some new opportunities,鈥� said Erika Bennett, the Seminary鈥檚 director of Continuing Education. 鈥淲e have a great lineup of films, and we are including some short films as a precursor to the festival鈥檚 first short film contest slated for 2022.鈥�
Festival highlights include:
- 鈥淏ackstage Interview鈥� with Paul Walter Hauser, who appeared in the Oscar-winning films 鈥淚, Tonya鈥� and 鈥淏lacKkKlansman鈥� and as the title character in Clint Eastwood鈥檚 鈥淩ichard Jewell鈥�
- 鈥淰iewing Film through the Lens of Faith鈥� with Rev. Bill Cwirla and Rev. Ted Giese, hosts of the podcast 鈥淏ill and Ted Watch Movies鈥�
- Best Movie Memory/Experience Contest
- Short film viewing of 鈥淐hange for a Dollar鈥� with award-winning director Sharon Wright
The festival hours are noon to 11 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, and 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29. The festival is an adult-only, limited-participant event. Registration is $20 and the deadline is Jan. 15, 2021. Participants must pre-register for movie-specific discussions. Continuing Education credits are available.
