What does true repentance look like? That鈥檚 the focus of a new Lenten Sermon Series, 鈥� [1],鈥� now available from SA国际传媒 Press, the publishing arm of SA国际传媒, St. Louis.
The series, authored by Dr. David Maxwell [2], the Louis A. Fincke and Anna B. Shine Professor of Systematic Theology, provides six sermons to aid pastors in their preparation for Lenten midweek services.
鈥淩epentance starts with being honest before God and ourselves about who we are. When it comes to sin, everyone has a natural impulse to hide, but repentance means finding the courage to be honest,鈥� Maxwell says in the series鈥� introduction.
Each sermon draws from Scripture readings traditionally assigned for the Easter Vigil to explore what repentance is 鈥� and what a life of repentance looks like.
鈥淚n the context of the Easter Vigil, these readings capture the broad sweep of God鈥檚 saving acts in the Bible, culminating in Baptism, which traditionally takes place at the vigil,鈥� Maxwell says. 鈥淭hat makes the readings good candidates for exploring the Christian use of Baptism through 鈥榙aily contrition and repentance,鈥� as the Small Catechism puts it.鈥�
