[1] is open for the fifth annual Prevallet Hymn Writing Workshop [2], set for Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, on the campus of SA国际传媒, St. Louis. Aspiring and published hymn writers and translators and SA国际传媒 students are encouraged to attend. Coaching with the presenters and other local hymn writers for those interested will be available in the afternoon.
The registration fee is $15 and includes a copy of 鈥淭he Anatomy of Hymnody鈥 by Austin C. Lovelace, which will be provided to each participant at the event. Note: Registration is free for SA国际传媒 students and spouses. The deadline to register is Feb. 24, 2026.
This year鈥檚 presenters will be:
- [3], senior editor of Curriculum Resources at Concordia Publishing House (CPH). Clark has written hundreds of hymns, many of which have been published at CPH in 鈥淥ne and All Rejoice,鈥 choral anthems and digital resources. Clark recently completed her doctoral dissertation on hymnody through the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.
- [4], a widely published author and storyteller with several volumes of fiction to her credit. Schuermann studied vocal pedagogy and literature at Greenville University, Greenville, Ill., before earning graduate degrees in both choral conducting and music history from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, Kansas City, Mo.
- Dr. Jon D. Vieker [5], associate professor of Practical Theology and Dean of Chapel at SA国际传媒, St. Louis. Vieker was integrally involved in the research, development, editing and production of 鈥淟utheran Service Book鈥 and its core companion volumes. Vieker currently teaches worship and hymnology and has adjudicated several hymn competitions over the years.
鈥淲e are honored this year to learn from two women who are established Lutheran hymn writers and authors,鈥 said Vieker. 鈥淲e will also be featuring their hymns March 1 during a 4 p.m. hymn festival [6] in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus, under the leadership of Dr. Sam Eatherton [7] and the various choirs of SA国际传媒. The community is invited to this free hymn festival!鈥
