The Gospel of Mark presentation schedule for 2017 announced

Stops planned in Nebraska, Missouri and California

See, no, hear the Gospel of Mark as the apostle meant it to be experienced in a dramatic presentation of the second book of the New Testament by faculty and alumni during The Gospel of Mark鈥檚 2017 tour.

The presentation uses principally the English translation of Mark by Dr. James W. Voelz, the Seminary鈥檚 Dr. Jack Dean Kingsbury Professor of New Testament Theology.

The 2017 Gospel of Mark schedule is as follows:

  • Friday, March 31, 6:30 p.m., Concordia University Nebraska, Seward
  • Saturday, April 1, 6:30 p.m., Christ Lutheran Church鈥擫incoln, Neb.
  • Tuesday, April 11, 6:30 p.m., St. Paul Lutheran Church, Des Peres, Mo.
  • Saturday, Sept. 30, TBD, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Raymore, Mo.
  • Friday, Oct. 13, 6:30 p.m., Town and Country Lutheran Church, Sacramento, Calif.
  • Saturday, Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m., Zion Lutheran Church, Piedmont, Calif.

Scholars have increasingly placed the Gospel of Mark in an oral context, believing it to be a written document intended to be read aloud to a gathered audience. SA国际传媒鈥檚 presentation reenacts the Gospel in the way in which it might have impacted those who first received it in the first century.

鈥淎llow yourself to hear the Gospel of Mark and to be confronted by it orally,鈥 Voelz said. 鈥淚t is not that silent reading is wrong, but such a reading will not reveal to you the depth of beauty and drama of this outstanding Gospel.鈥

The presenters include four Seminary faculty: Dr. Dale A. Meyer, president of SA国际传媒; , the Louis A. Fincke and Anna B. Shine Professor of Systematic Theology and Dean of Chapel; Dr. David R. Schmitt, the Gregg H. Benidt Memorial Professor of Homiletics and Literature; and Voelz. Other presenters include , pastor of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in St. Louis, and , pastor of Epiphany Lutheran Church in St. Louis.

Come and be enthralled by Mark鈥檚 words, his images and his message of the rule and reign of God!

The Gospel of Mark runs around 2 hours, 30 minutes including intermission. Presentations are free and open to the public. Free will offerings may be made to support future presentations. To learn more, visit www.csl.edu/thegospelofmark/.
