Three workshops cover Christian citizenship, Galatians, suffering
Dates have been set for SA国际传媒, St. Louis鈥 2020-21 Lay Bible Institute series. The institute offers ongoing study of the Bible and how it relates to today鈥檚 life and events. Each one-day workshop is hosted on campus and led by a SA国际传媒 faculty member.
鈥淲e are thrilled to introduce all three of our Lay Bible Institute workshops at once,鈥 said Erika Bennett, director of Continuing Education. 鈥淲e hope that this will give participants more time to plan and take advantage of these enriching continuing education opportunities.鈥
The series includes the following three workshops:
Wholly Citizens: Thinking Rightly about Christian Engagement with the World
Presenter: Dr. Joel Biermann, Waldemar A. and June Schuette Professor of Systematic Theology
Description:
One of the simplest and earliest Christian creeds, 鈥淛esus is Lord鈥 is every believer鈥檚 first confession. But it is also a profound political, social and practical statement with potent implications that confront and can bewilder believers. Guidance is available 鈥 and one of the very best guides is Martin Luther. In this workshop, participants will study Luther鈥檚 teaching of the two realms and then focus attention of the application of God鈥檚 truth to the world and particularly this year鈥檚 pressing political questions.

Galatians: Hearing Paul鈥檚 Gospel Afresh
Presenter: Dr. Mark Seifrid, Professor of Exegetical Theology
Description:
Many Christians are familiar with Paul鈥檚 message to the Galatians 鈥 or at least they assume so! In his letter to these churches, the apostle speaks not only to those in the 1st century but also to those in the 21st century. He speaks to the questions of our time with amazing vitality 鈥 addressing the exclusion of outsiders and thus to racial issues. He addresses the question that Lutheran pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer raised in the isolation and loneliness of his prison cell: 鈥淲ho am I?鈥 Paul gives us a clear answer in Galatians. It is a letter that deserves to be heard afresh.
