Rev. Dr. Bruce G. Schuchard

Professor of Exegetical Theology, Exegetical Theology

Dr. Bruce G. Schuchard is professor of Exegetical Theology at SA国际传媒, St. Louis.

He has been a faculty member since 1997. He previously served as dean of the Graduate School (2003-06), dean of Advanced Studies (2006-14), Graduate School coordinator for international students (2014-15) and chairman of the Department of Exegetical Theology (2021-24).

His areas of interest and expertise include the works of John, including his Gospel, Epistles and Revelation, and the New Testament use of Old Testament Scripture.

Before joining the Seminary, Schuchard served as pastor at St. James Lutheran Church in Victor, Iowa (1990-97).

He received his Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.) from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind. (1984, 1985). He also holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (1979); and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Union Seminary in Richmond, Va. (1991).

He wrote聽鈥淭he Word from the Beginning: The Person and Work of Jesus in the Gospel of John鈥澛(Lexham Press, 2022). He also wrote聽鈥1-3 John鈥澛爁or Concordia Publishing House鈥檚 鈥淐oncordia Commentary聽Series鈥 (2012). He co-edited聽鈥淎biding Words: The Use of Scripture in the Gospel of John鈥澛(SBL Press, 2015). His doctoral dissertation,聽鈥淪cripture within Scripture: The Interrelationship of Form and Function in the Explicit Old Testament Citations in the Gospel of John,鈥 was published in the 鈥淪ociety of Biblical Literature Dissertation Series鈥 (in 1992).
